Recently I have had good feedback that students are practicing better and more engaged with their weekly practice when they have a timer set for their practice session

There is a model called Pomodoro which uses timers for time management and productivity -

a model that I use myself in my home office

Pomodoro is a time management method in which you do focused work - or in this case

Piano Practice

Lets look at the positives about putting on a timer for piano practice at home

  1. Increased focus and habits

  2. Avoid distraction

  3. Can increase the length of time

  4. Sense of achievement

  5. Measure success

  6. Break longer tasks into smaller tasks

  7. Help in developing a greater interest in music

Start with 10 minutes - try not to watch the clock - practice your weekly tasks until the time is up - perhaps increase the time as your practice becomes more of a habit

Create a time that belongs to Piano Practice and set the timer !!!
